Vintage at the Merchant City Festival, Glasgow

Just back from a fabulous morning at the Merchant City Festival in Glasgow.  I wanted to be there early before it got too busy and too hot - I'm glad I did!

My favourite part was the Vintage Maretplace - lots of stalls in Ingram Street car park.  My favourite was Hollie Berries beautiful stall full of vintage china and bits and pieces - gorgeous!  (In case you are wondering - the huge hedgehog at the back is part of a mural!!)

I also love Gillian Kyle items - bags, mugs, tea towels etc all depicting good old Scottish favourites like plain bread and Tunnocks teacakes as well as a few other instantly recognisable Scottish necessities!  Catherine was looking after the stall which was full of fabulous bits and pieces.

Retro Bazaar had an amazing collection of vintage phones and furniture.

Two of the other fabulous stalls were - Love Me Again with gorgeous homeware, and Emily Rose Vintage who had some lovely painted furniture.

Love these two - a Gramophone DJ and a gorgeous vintage thingy which served as a florists.

These lovely ladies posed for me while they waited for the Charleston Brunch at the Old Fruitmarket - don't they look amazing!

I had a fabulous morning - there was loads more to see - lots of food stalls and entertainment, but it got a bit hot and my feet were sore (I stupidly wore the wrong shoes - d'oh!!!!!).

Hope you are having a great weekend.

Vintage Dorcas Pillow Cases

Hi girls!  Good to be back in blogland after my holidays!
Thought I would start with a lovely little charity shop find - these lovely vintage Dorcas pillow cases still in their original wrap and box.

So pretty!

Lovely embroidery - lets see it in vivid colours!

An added bonus was this little engagement gift card which was tucked away inside.

What a pity such a lovely gift was never used - but then again - I can remember a few gifts I received for my engagement and wedding which, at the time I thought were so old fashioned and put in the back of the cupboard!  How things change ... or stay the same????

Crochet Baby Blankets

I've just completed two more crochet baby blankets using granny squares.  This time I've stuck to more traditional colours.

For the first one I used traditional pastel shades and edged it with a creamy white.

I worried a bit about this shades of blue blanket.  I was a bit concerned that edging it in white might be too much of a contrast, but I think it has turned out ok.

Which is your favourite?

Tapestry Patterns

I found these pictures of tapestries in a pattern book and thought you might like to see them.

I remember doing something quite like this when I was little, but instead of a cloth background, it was a slotted sheet of card and you stretched the yarn across and slotted it into the spaces till you got a picture.  I've not described that very well, but I remember my brother and I getting these kits one Christmas when we were little.  You were even given a frame for your finished work.  Cannot for the life of me remember what that was called!

Anyway - these are quite cute and would probably be collectable these days.

Sunny Yellow Vintage Plate

This plate is a really bright shade of yellow - lovely.

It was given to me by a friend - how lucky am I?

There's an unusual stamp on the back - Edinburgh with what looks like a sketch of the castle, but it was made in England!  Anyone know anything about this - I've looked online but can't find any information.

I've a few more plates to show you next time.
Happy Friday!

Painted Vintage China Cabinet

I've finished painting my vintage china cabinet.  I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and finished it off with Annie Sloan Wax.

What do you think?

I'm very glad I kept the original paper on the inside - thanks for all your advice.

Now for the best bit - choosing which of my vintage china gets to be displayed!

Found some interesting manufacturer's marks before I started painting.

Vintage Embroidered Tray Cloth

I found some fabulous vintage embroidered pieces in a charity shop at the weekend.  One is still soaking, but this one is washed and ready to show.  (Why is it that you think something is well ironed till you take a photo of it?!)

It is a pretty little vintage embroidered tray cloth.

I love the soft pastel colours and the pretty edging.  The embroidery is beautifully worked.

It is destined to go on my dressing table - should look lovely.

Hope you found some bargains this weekend.
